a day well spent...
and so yesterday, I spent it doing civilian-like things and felt human again.
I went down to Funan IT Mall in the afternoon to buy Metal Gear Ac!d for my PSP at this really cool shop called Gamescore. It's a great game; really really challenging, but very fun and intuitive nonetheless. Incidentally, my PSP has a few dead pixels, or so I think they are. this really pisses me off. thankfully, the dead pixels are only visible on very dark screenshots etc. bugger!!!
After buying my game, I went down to Orchard to meet Emmanuel. We had fish n chips at this "chippy" store at Far East Plaza. It was really tasty. Emmanuel got himself a new haircut, and after which, we walked around and did some shopping. We probably walked the entire Orchard/Scotts stretch twice over! Anyway, I bought myself a really cool Famous Stars & Stripes belt, and a badass cassette tape buckle for a grand total of S$89. Huge damage, but well worth it...until I saw some ugly chick wearing a pink version of my belt. Thank goodness I have a dope buckle!
I FINALLY got myself a new wallet. I've been wallet-less for the past four months. Was searching for a suitably nice wallet, and by chance, i found it yesterday at the same store I got my belt/buckle from: GALLERY at Pacific Plaza. It's a neat Zoo York black leather one. It's simple, has nice print and it's perfect...sorta.
At night, Emmanuel gave me a birthday treat (my birthday's on May 2nd) at this fantastic Northern Indian restaurant at Serangoon Rd Little India. It's serves a mean chicken tikka. We order waaaay too much bread and by the end of the meal, we were stuffed and felt kinda sick. but the food was EXCELLENT! I'm gonna bring my family there one of these days.
After dinner, we bought some toiletries at Mustapha Centre where we braved rioutous crowds, after which, Emmanuel headed down to meet his poly friends at some pub called Forbidden City, while I headed home, tired as I was.
All in all, a day well spent. My only regret is that i didn't buy a book at Borders.
my new PSP...
...rocks!! It's gorgeous as hell, and it plays like a dream so far. I bought Fifa Soccer and it's amazing to see PS1/PS2-like quality on a handheld console. My GBA SP is going into the trash can as we speak. haha.
the big 2-1...
so my birthday is coming up and I'll be 21. a legal adult! :) guess this means I'll have to leave my childhood behind...NOT! In fact, I think I'll get me folks to buy me a PSP as a gift. shameless I know. I just have to decide on whether to get the Jap version or the US one. decision decisions...
the week was boring as usual. booked out early today and that's why I'm now. we just started on a CCAC course, which is actually a basic medic course. an IV prac will be conducted and I'm REALLY scared shitless. I hate the sight of blood and the thought of needles and veins just makes me really queasy. I hope I won't faint on the day.
by the way, Constantine of American Idol is OUT! Yay! I've hated him from day one. What in the world was he thinking when he chose "How You Remind Me" as his song choice this week? Carrie Underwood was out of tune. That's sad really, because she's my favourite. Bo Bice, on the other hand, was spectacular. I hope he and Carrie make it to the finals because it'd be a really interesting battle. I mean, Carrie's really country and likes to sing rock-ish tunes, while Bo is really rock but has a voice suited for country tunes too. That would make a really sublime finale battle. hah. Idol fever has hit me too.
back to camp tonight...Lord help me!!
so yesterday, I went to platoon mate Jarod's birthday party at Downtown East chalet "resort". Frankly, that place is kinda communist/fascist like in the sense that it's govt. run and owned, and caters to the entertainment needs of the dear breed we call 'heartlanders'. oh bother.
anyway, it was an ok night. Jarod's parents were really nice especially his mom. Jarod though, got piss drunk and nearly passed out before cutting his birthday cake. Hah. We gambled, I sang Mariah Carey songs to annoy some Mariaholic guy named James and finally, I took a cab home and went to bed by 3am! superb!
and now, it's Sunday and at 6.26pm, I'm not feeling so good. I've got to book into camp by 2300hrs latest. Another week of NS bullshit to live through before the weekend comes.
Incidentally, I watched "Alexander" on saturday and I kinda enjoyed it. yeah, it's a bit too Discovery Channel documentry-ish but very cool nonetheless. I've always known, never believe what the damn critics say...unless it comes to duds like say, the Bennifer vehicle "Gigli" etc. ahem.
over and out.
she will NOT be loved...
I really hate Maroon 5. how can people listen to this crap??!! the guy can't sing to save his penis and the music is vomit-inducing. and they have the nerve to call themselves soul-meets-rock? God save the music industry.
real men cry...
So this is it, my first ever blog/post! I have finally succumbed to the phenomenom that is blogging.
A little about myself: Born in Canberra, Australia. I've spent much of my life in Singapore and am currently a Singapore Armed Forces national serviceman (because my parents are Singaporean and I've benefited from the local govt education subsidies). Which sucks really, because it's a pathetic waste of time. Anyway, I currently have NO LIFE thanks to the SAF and my weekends are basically spent detoxing (
i.e. normal things like going to the movies that civilian folk take for granted) from strict regimentation and camouflage overdose. Still, much of what I'll talk about will be about my life in the army, since I spend 5 days a week locked away in camp. (yes, a sad existence I know).
So anyway, I like music ALOT. I prefer rock, indie, folk, blues and country stuff, but I do listen to all kinds of stuff. I love reading and movies like most boring folk. Do I have any unique hobbies? Nope. Do I have any particular quirks? Nope. so there. that's me. I play the guitar. Now isn't that so cool? haha.
Ok, enough about that. Let's get on to the "highlights" of my week so far ending Friday:
Mon- Wed: Nothing to note. (
read "same old shit, different day")
Thursday: We had a chemical defense practical where we stuffed ourselves into a chemical defense suit and put a gas mask on. We then subjected ourselves to tear gas in a smoke chamber. Needless to say, the conc. of the tear gas was very low, but it was enough to induce painful reactions from the majority of us once we were forced to remove the damn masks. One guy in my platoon removed his mask first and he choked bad, real bad. It was quite a spectacle that scared the bejesus outta me I tell ya, but it wasn't so bad when it got to my turn. At least I didn't scream like some pussy. I couldn't stop tearing though and my face felt like it was being grazed with sandpaper (that lasted an agonising 10 minutes). Kinda traumatizing, and I can't begin to imagine people caught in riots getting a face-load of higher conc. tear gas. I think I would die of just pain alone, being the big wuss that I am. So there ya go, my first and hopefully last experience with tear gas.
Friday: Booked out at 4pm, which is earlier than usual. Yay. Oh the simple pleasures in life!! Was urged by platoon mate Gideon to go to Zouk tonight but I think I'm just waaaay to broke to afford such extravagances. So here I am sitting here at 7.50pm on a Friday evening, feeling too damn lazy to go out and live life like normal sane folk. See what the SAF does to people. It's a recluse-generating factory.
